Southern Maryland Tour - Part III - Solomons Island

After the winery tour, we drove down the peninsula to the south end, Solomons Island, a local tourist Mecca.  Before dinner we stopped at the regionally famous Tiki Bar for a drink.  The Tiki Bar opens every spring to a riotous party (I avoid it like the plague).  However, the Margarita I had tonight was excellent...
While we sat at the bar, a couple navigated this boat in for the night, tied up and came over to the bar before going elsewhere for dinner.  Tough life...
Solomons Island is directly across the Patuxent River from Patuxent River Naval Air Station, a major center for testing naval aircraft.  As usual, they were out and about.  Tom could tell me what plane this is, but I don't know.  It was loud...
We settled at a table outside at Solomons Pier, close to this kid's perch.
This is the first time I've seen a 3 seat kayak.
I had a true southern MD treat, a soft crab sandwich.  The crabs are freshly shed, so their shell is soft and edible.  The entire crab (minus the gills) is floured and fried and put between two pieces of bread.  This might have been the best one I've ever had. Two fat, but soft, and yet crunchy crabs,  on good bread.  Or it might have been the Margarita...
Sunset was a bit of a disappointment tonight. No color.  The bridge behind is the Governor Thomas Johnson Bridge, which crosses the Patuxent River and connects Calvert and St. Mary's Counties.  There's good fishing sometimes on those big pilings in the center.
